Robert Edington. While a State Representative he wrote the bill that established the University of South Alabama, Mobile Historic Development Commission and Battleship Park. He has served on over 20 boards. He served as an attorney for more than 60 years. He was responsible for the ships coming during every Mardi Gras. He has been Mobilian of the Year and Veteran of the Year.
Henry deTonti……Old Mobile’s ambassador to native tribes, Circa 1703-1705. “Bra de Fer” (Iron Hand) was LaSalle’s chief officer before joining the Bienville brothers in tne founding of Mobile. The trading agreements he negotiated literally insured the early survival of the colony. He died of yellow fever in 1705.
I have reenacted deTonti at Mobile historic events for 15 years.
LeMoyne Brothers! Bienville was the middle bother of three involved in the founding of our Mobile. Note: Never construct emails before your morning coffee!

Great roster of Arts Warriors/Winners!
Great job !
There are a lot of Buildings here in Mobile Alabama that needs be spruced up . Older Buildings that needs to be put back in to use . Homeless work training shelters would catch 2 fish with a single hook . That in itself is a multiple bonus for everyone that lives in the Mobile County area . Even the least able people can become a benefit to themselves again , and to our entire family community as a whole .
City revenues would be increased dramatically in short order , and in the long term we all would gain a much preferred good name .
Please consider this , every time you get together ? A strong foundation starts with compassion , and builds by faithfulness .

I LOVE this virtual Artwalk!! Great job, everyone, & thank all who participated in putting it together & sharing the unique talents of Mobile!
Thank you! Appreciate all of the downtown businesses who are participating and all of the effort to organize this unique event.
I have several of your CD’s—-I love the Marreros!
Alright! Full disclosure! I’m admittedly somewhat biased as Eric and I have been friends since high school! He had many more friends than I because he spent so many years there! On top of being a dear friend and a kind soul, he is obviously a multi talent! He has certainly helped make any project I have included him in a huge success! He is well-deserving of this award!
Those sound bites have a great feel…! Congrats, Eric!
I’ve known Eric since High School. Not only does he play a assortment of musical instruments, he is a singer, and a Comedian! He’s played with the Plum Loco Band and many others around the Gulf Coast.
The Mobile Arts Council made a Excellent Choice!
I am proud to have the opportunity to play drums in “Tony B and the Opperators” with Eric. He is a very talented musician and a great guy.
I have several of his CD’s done by Eric and his wife Karin. What a great talented couple. Keep up the good work Eric.
We let me glom on while you’re hot in the news. I listened to Eric at a restaurant years ago playing solo with guitar. I was knocked out at this
highly refined talent. That’s all folks…Ben Mathis, cousin of Ken Matthews.
Eric is an amazing talent. Hoping one day we can do a project together!
I will be dropping off one piece, 30×30 ish
I’m a local artist. I would love two or three (or as many that you will allow) thin slices to paint on. A series. I would love to paint on a piece of history from our beautiful city. Please consider me. Thank you. I love Mobile
Bob,
It was great talking to you, thank you for letting us know of Nancy’s exhibit!! I can’t wait to see the quilts in person, the photographs are amazing.
Where are the artworks location online?
Do you know when your LUSH 101 classes be able to start?
Hi there,
My name is Selena Garza. I recently moved into a home in Mobile that had been occupied by the same family since it was built in the 70s. They left a piano in the house and inside of the piano chair I found an old recital program from May 2, 1953 at Bernheim Hall. If you guys are interested in preserving and archiving this piece of history I would be happy to pass it along. You can call or email me. Thank you.

is ready to use his talent to recognize Mobile’s best athletes.

MOBILE BASEBALL
CONNECTION
A life size statue of Hank Aaron is on display at the Mobile Arts Council Gallery next door to the Saenger Theatre in downtown Mobile.
“Being the hometown guy, and having been involved in baseball my entire life, this project is especially near to my heart,”
Corey Swindle wrote in a message.
Corey Swindle of Fairhope, Alabama along with four more finalists have submitted their work and it is on display at the Arts Council Gallery.

One of the talented experts will be chosen as the artist to achieve and fulfill this amazing project.
Six nine-foot-tall bronze statues with pedestals, portraying Mobile’s five Hall of Fame baseball players and one Hall of Fame football player will be erected in the Hall of Fame Courtyard in Cooper Riverside Park next to the Convention Center at the foot of Government Street in
downtown Mobile.
Former Major League baseball players Hank Aaron; Leroy “Satchel” Paige, Willie McCovey, Ozzie Smith, Billy Williams and former Houston Oiler and National Football League player Robert Brazile are the first players to be recognized with more members of the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame to follow.
Swindle’s son, Brody, is a rising star on the baseball field for Coach Matt Limbaugh at Bayside Academy High School in Daphne, AL.
It is evident Corey has his heart and soul in to this opportunity.
As baseball and sports enthusiasts from Mobile and Baldwin Counties as well as the surrounding area, we should rally around and support Corey Swindle with hope he will be the lucky one chosen as the creator of these unique sculptures.
“My team feels we have a great shot at this project and would be honored to be apart of this awesome project,” Swindle wrote.
Check out Corey’s work in the images of Hank Aaron.

Hey Amanda! You can find information about our upcoming exhibitions on our gallery page here: https://mobilearts.org/gallery/
Are the pictures on another site?
The non-miniature items (paintings, prints, etc.) are all set to “buy it now” and are only available to see in the gallery. If you are curious about them, we could send you some images! Just email director@mobilearts.org.
I was so fortunate to get invited to a luncheon at Roxanne’s house where I first saw her miniatures. I have always told people ever since, her display cases were like a “mini museum” . . . . . I wish I had the funding to put all of her miniatures into a single “Roxanne Dyess Miniatures Museum” . . . . she was one talented lady.

How does a young artist get the opportunity to sell her artwork in the square? Is there a booth fee?
Yes there is an application process and a booth fee each month. Read about it online here: https://mobilearts.org/mac-vendor-applications/
What an amazing exhibit. Exceptional body of work, Louis Tooker captures the essence of the figure in an old world style reminiscent of Inges.
So inspired to work with the figure again. As I embark on my own studies of figurative drawing, I appreciate the effort it took to complete these drawings.
The paintings in this show are an expression of the vitality and diversity of the Art scene in the Mobile area. Jessica Maple did an exemplary job curating this exhibit.
Where/How do I buy tickets for the Valentine Dance event scheduled for this Friday night?

I am very interested in participating in this clever idea. If I am given a box to decorate, how long do I have to finish?
Hi. I’m interested in designing a box. Thanks.
Is there cost to submit or limit on how many submissions?
There is no cost to submit – but there is a limit to three submissions per person. Thanks for your interest!
Any information on the dimensions of window that will be used? Thanks!
Carrie – there is a downloadable PDF in the application form that has the window dimensions clearly listed!

What a great idea but if I was to submit the work would incorporate both themes which I enter under
Hey Charles! You could enter work into both shows or just one. We can write out something beside your work to acknowledge that you are a participant in both shows as well!
Thanks so much for your support of our guild. Mobile has an exciting and active arts community. The Azalea City Art Quilters will have a display at the show. We had such a good show at your place.
Wanda Sullivan recommended me to this program!! <3
I work most weekdays at a coffee shop 6-1 so i’m available after that. Occasionally Saturdays.

Jerry was so talented, creative, imaginative. He was fun to be with. I think of him so often and miss him.
I enjoyed taking water color and pencil drawing from Jerry years ago. After taking pencil drawing for the third time he said, “Okay you’re drawing me good enough to know it’s me! Let’s try something new.” Then he brought out a mirror and made me draw myself!

Utility box 405 is stunning!
I am thrilled the Mobile Arts Council is doing this. I have been an art teacher for 40 years and understand the power of art.
I have written 10 books on this subject…several in a lesson plan format, so facilitators can teach these art classes easily.
I am looking forward to work with you.
Hello,
Can digital art ( drawn via computer software) be submitted?
Hey Althea, Thanks for reaching out. All art mediums are welcomed for the MAC Members’ show! We just ask that artists ensure their work is equipped to hang with a wire, sawtooth hanger, etc. in order to be compatible with our hanging system. If you have any additional questions, email Sydney Cramer at scramer@mobilearts.org.

My name is Jade Maghoney, and I am the Senior Logistics Director for Stage One Dance Productions. We are looking for different venue options in the Mobile area to host our dance competition. We are looking at Jan. 10-12, 2025 and Jan. 16-18, 2026. I know school activities are a priority and it may be too late or too early to determine. If you have any information at this time, that would be great. Look forward to hearing from you soon!
Thank you so much,
Jade
Hello Jade! Thank you for reaching out. While we don’t have any control over booking events, we would recommend reaching out to the Mobile Convention Center. The Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center anchors lively downtown Mobile, Alabama, within walking distance of retail shops, restaurants, museums, parks and art galleries. The 317,000-square-foot facility features 16 meeting rooms, two ballrooms and two exhibit halls that total 100,000 square feet. They would be best equipped with the facilities necessary for your dancers and currently host several dance competitions throughout the year.
