June Artist Member of the Month

Congratulations to our June Artist Member of the Month, Tanya Parent!

A proud member of the Mobile Arts Council, Tanya Parent is currently one of two dance educators at Dunbar Magnet School of the Creative and Performing Arts. Her love of dance and arts education led her to use her talents to educate, expose, and experiment with young creative minds in the movement art form. She currently lives in the Old Dauphin Way District with her husband Billy and together they have two young adults, Will and Ava.

Mrs. Parent is an artlLook®Alabama Liaison, the Alabama State Affiliate for the National Dance Educators Organization, a member of the MCPSS Dance Teacher Association, and Vice President of the Alabama Dance Educators Association K-12. Mrs. Parent has previously choreographed for the MCPSS Honor Dance Concert, the musicals Bye, Bye Birdie, Seussical Jr., Urinetown, The Adams Family, the high school edition of Chicago, We Will Rock You, Xanadu, Jr., and Big Fish. She is also currently certified in the Zena Rommett Floor Barre technique.

Originally from Marrero, Louisiana, Mrs. Parent has a B.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Southern Mississippi, an M.A. in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky, and an M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama. She is also the former owner of danceXtreme, LLC, and director of the Alma Bryant High School dance department and the Kickin’ Cane Dancers.
