Celebrate Poetry Month this April!
Weekly Poetry Prompts, School Workshop Application Open, & April ArtWalk Performances
Friday Poetry Prompts
Mobile’s Poet Laureate, Charlotte Pence, is providing a poetry prompt each Friday in April to inspire you to write a poem. Both the experience of writing and reading poetry can have a powerful, positive effect. Sometimes when talking to others, words can be difficult to form. But when we pick up the pen, we are writing to ourselves. There are no wrong words. As author Audre Lorde said: “…Poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms the quality of the light within which we predicate our hopes and dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then into idea, then into more tangible action.”
Spoken Word of Mobile at ArtWalk
Each ArtWalk, a recurring monthly poetry segment will be curated by Pence for each second-Friday ArtWalk. She aims to showcase a rich tapestry of poetic voices, ensuring a vibrant and diverse literary representation. This will take place in the Performance Zone, adjacent to Hoffman’s Furniture, commencing at 6:30 p.m. On Friday, April 12th, join us for a Poetry Reading in the Performance Zone at 6:30 p.m. featuring Spoken Word of Mobile, emceed by Tiffany Pogue.
