The University of South Alabama will present a guest artist concert featuring Kristin Leitterman and Doug Owens on Saturday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. The recital is the culmination of USA Double Reed Day, an all-day event for area double reed students. Being quite a concert extravaganza, the program will feature Leitterman and Owens, along with USA Double Reed Faculty Rebecca Mindock, each of whom will alternate between various double reed instruments throughout the course of the program. Leitterman, also an accomplished soprano, will sing and employ the use of electronics in her performance. These featured artists will be joined by guest flutist Charles Lewis, percussionist Shane Jones, and pianists Emily Trapp Jenkins and Scott Schwab as they perform a diverse array of works by composers Gene Koshinski, Whitney George, Paul Carr, Eugene Bourdeau, Stella Sung, Eric Ewazen, Madeleine Dring, and Astor Piazzolla. Immediately following the guest artist recital, the Double Reed Day participants will gather on stage to perform a brief but engaging selection of pieces for large double reed ensemble.

Admission to this Department of Music concert is free and open to the public. Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call 251-460-7116 or 251-460-6136.
