The Mobile Carnival Museum’s third exhibit of its thematic quarterly series, “The Tout Ensemble: Edmond deCelle & the Studio deCelle,” features over seventy works of varied mediums. This exhibit is a robust celebration of a great artist of Carnival and Mobile, Edmond deCelle. He worked in oils, watercolors, pastels, etchings, and more. For over fifty years, deCelle was the principle designer for the Order of Myths, the oldest parading society of Mardi Gras in this nation. He designed for over a dozen other mystic societies as well. Float designs comprise only a portion of the exhibit; paintings that show how deCelle and Carnival are integral to Mobile art and life dominate the show. Gorgeous textiles, including gowns, vestments, and trains show how Edmond deCelle and his wife Kathryn Taylor shaped Mardi Gras, couture, and performing art fashion via their atelier, the Studio deCelle.
