The Schumann Music Club of Mobile will present its 129th Anniversary Concert at 2 PM Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship located at 1150 Fairhope Ave.  The program will include performers on strings, winds, keyboard, and vocalists.  This event is free and open to the public.
The Clara Schumann Music Club was founded by Mobile women in 1894 to promote and encourage the culture of musical art in the area.  90 years later, when men were allowed to join, it was renamed the Schumann Music Club.  The club is affiliated with the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
The stated purpose of the organization is to promote fine musical performance, encourage musical arts in our community, and nurture young musicians in their pursuit of musical excellence.  Although auditions were required to join the club many years ago, anyone who is willing to support the purpose of the organization and pay annual dues is invited to request membership.  Current club members include many performing artists in the Mobile area.
The organization presents multiple free concerts a year including the Young Musicians Concert each spring presenting the winners of auditions in which students compete for scholarships.
