The Mobile Public Library will celebrate National Poetry Month by hosting a poetry competition. This
competition is co-sponsored by Friends of the Library and The Spoken Word of Mobile Poetry Group,
The poetry slam is open to ages 8 to 19
AGE CATEGORIES
8 – 11 12 – 14 15 – 19
****Poems must be your own original creation ****
CONTESTANTS WILL BE JUDGED ON
1). Originality 2). Clarity 3). Presentation
Contestants must present one poem; a second poem is allowed if you are in a run-off or tie;
but is not mandatory.
Maximum time allowed for presentation: (3-5) minutes
ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE PRESENT ON THE DAY OF COMPETITION NO LATER THAN 1:30 PM FOR SIGN IN
CASH PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED
3 – First Place – $60.00
3 – Second Place winners @ 40.00 EACH
3 – Third place winners @ 20.00 EACH
3- Honorable Mention @ $10.00 EACH
Each contestant will receive a certificate of participation and writing journal/pen
Absolutely no profanity, negativity or degrading of race or ethnicity will be tolerated.
