Art After Dark: Dawn to Dusk is an after-hours museum experience inspired by the life and work of Louise Nevelson, celebrating assemblage, atmosphere, and the creative energy of New York City.
Open and welcoming to all, the evening offers a relaxed, social environment where guests can explore the museum after dark, enjoy live jazz music, and engage with art in both reflective and hands-on ways. Guests will have full access to the museum and the exhibition Louise Nevelson: Dawn to Dusk which highlights Nevelson’s innovative use of found materials and her dramatic
exploration of light, shadow, and form.
The after-hours setting invites visitors to experience the exhibition in a new way—slower, moodier, and accompanied by the improvisational rhythms of live jazz performed throughout the evening. In the spirit of Nevelson’s artistic practice, attendees are invited to participate in a drop-in pendant-making activity inspired by her assemblage techniques. Using scrap wood and found materials, guests can create wearable works of art that reflect Nevelson’s belief in transformation, reuse, and the beauty of the overlooked.
The evening also embraces a classic New York City social atmosphere, with beer and pizza available to enjoy throughout the night. A specialty Manhattan cocktail will be featured, paying homage to Nevelson’s deep connection to the city that shaped her career and artistic vision. Art After Dark: Dawn To Dusk offers an immersive blend of visual art, music, making, and community—inviting guests to linger in the galleries and experience Nevelson’s world from dusk into night.
