Participants in this workshop will learn the basics of the hand-quilting stitch, simple hand-piecing and hand-appliqué. First, we’ll piece together some small, simple patchwork backgrounds (approximately 12 x 12 in.). While we stitch, we’ll spend some time talking about our experiences with nature, from favorite plants to childhood memories.
We’ll pull our inspiration from that discussion, using those conversations to inspire the shapes we’ll use for our next step: appliqué. We’ll draw and cut shapes from fabrics and learn raw-edge and needle-turn appliqué to help add a pictorial and narrative quality to your work. Participants will leave with a healthy start on a pieced and appliquéd quilt, or in some instances a finished piece.
