Join MMofA in the studio on select Saturdays to explore materials, make connections, and create using a wide variety of artistic materials and processes. Each Saturday offers students aged 16+ opportunities to explore art materials and processes in a variety of 4-hour workshops meant to be accessible if you are a beginner, as well as offer ample time for growth if you’re not so new to the process. Each artist will guide participants through the concept to completion, taking home an original artwork inspired by museum collections.

In this Lumen printing workshop, instructor Micah Mermilliod will lead participants in creating a number of Lumen print photographs. Lumen printing is a camera-less, alternative photographic technique where organic materials are layered directly onto silver-gelatin photographic paper and then placed in direct sunlight.

This workshop will take place primarily outdoors, as no darkroom is needed to create these photographs! Rather than traditional developers, the sun does all of the developing, so after rinsing and fixing the images, participants will be left with unique, ethereal photographs!

Flowers, fruits, and other materials will be provided for printing, and participants are invited to bring their own materials to experiment with as well.
