MMofA: Saturday Studio Workshops for Kids

Students ages 5+ are invited to MMofA’s Saturday Studio Workshops for kids. On select Saturdays join them in their education classrooms to explore materials, make connections, and create using a wide variety of artistic materials and processes. Each artist will guide participants through concept to completion, taking home an original artwork inspired by museum collections.
Two Sessions Available
AUGUST 30 – COLLAGE FOR KID WITH MAGEN PIERCE | Session 1 – 10am – 12pm
This class will demonstrate how one piece of art can evolve into something new. Students will collectively paint on a large piece of paper using different brushes and sponges to create different textures, lines, and shapes. Then the image will be ripped and the pieces divided evenly to the students – from these pieces they will be asked to collage together their own art piece.
AUGUST 30 – WOODEN ASSEMBLAGE WITH MAGEN PIERCE | Session 2 – 12pm – 2pm
This class will encourage an intuitive approach to sculpture, through exploration of using natural resources that Mobile Bay has to offer. Students will get to pick from a wide range of different shaped drift wood. Using different colored string, the students will learn to collage and construct the drift wood into abstract hanging sculptures.
