In the words of artist, Louise Nevelson, ” Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind.” In this class students will be invited to enjoy a night of imagination and discovery with a friend! You will be taking a closer look into Nevelson’s world through exploring her exhibit in the museum.

As well as, learning about her life and how that affected the themes of her work. Each student will create their own small wooden sculpture, from a packet that will include a larger base piece of scrap wood and then various smaller pieces of scrap wood. They will intuitively arrange the wood and through this learn to bring new life to seemingly meaningless objects.

A major theme present in Nevelson’s work is individuality, and creating a world of your own. So students will not only learn the techniques of Wooden Assemblage, but also how to put a piece of themselves into everything they create. So bring your friend and work together to inspire one another to find meaning in the mundane.
