A Sacred Night of Gospel Music, Worship, and Community
Mobile, Alabama — Dunamis, the gospel ensemble of University of Mobile, will present Lift Every Voice & Sing: The Bridges Experience on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Living Word Christian Center (3275 Halls Mill Road, Mobile, AL 36606). This free event is open to the public and invites the community into an evening of worship, unity, and celebration through the power of gospel music.
Now in its third year, Lift Every Voice & Sing has grown into a sacred gathering where gospel music is experienced not simply as performance, but as worship, communal praise, and cultural testimony. The evening reflects Dunamis’s ongoing commitment to honoring Black sacred music as both ministry and art — creating space for reflection, remembrance, and collective worship.
This year’s program is shaped by the theme of bridges — bridges between generations, traditions, and expressions of faith. The first half of the evening will weave together hymns and modern worship, classical training and gospel expression, scripture and song. The second half will present a special tribute honoring the legacy of Richard Smallwood, whose music has long served as one of gospel’s most powerful bridges, uniting classical form, rich harmony, and profound theological depth.
The evening will feature guest artists Nikeland & Ebony Nichols, LeKeisha Cotten, and Dr. Andrew Goodwin, along with dance ministry presented by the Dance Department of Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy under the leadership of Mrs. Tyra Asogwa. Additional solo dance ministry will be offered by Apostle Veronica Smith.
“The God-breathed mission of Dunamis is to celebrate the nature of God through a demonstration of the culture of gospel music in the spirit of excellence. This night represents who we are and where we are going,” said Eld. Kenneth B. Brandon, Executive Director of Dunamis. “Lift Every Voice & Sing honors the bridges that have carried gospel music forward while reminding us that this music continues to shape worship, culture, and community today. We are deeply honored to pay tribute to Maestro Richard Smallwood — a true icon and one of gospel music’s greatest bridge builders.”
Housed within the Alabama School of the Arts, Dunamis is an auditioned gospel ensemble composed of student vocalists and mentor leaders from faculty and staff. The name Dunamis, derived from the Greek word meaning “power,” echoes Acts 1:8 and reflects the group’s mission to minister through Spirit-filled excellence. Since its debut at the University of Mobile’s Christmas Spectacular in 2023, Dunamis has continued to impact audiences through dynamic worship experiences, including From Dorsey to Dillard: An Evolutionary Journey through Gospel Music.
Lift Every Voice & Sing promises to be a Spirit-led evening of worship, remembrance, and praise.
All are welcome. Admission is free.
