The History Museum of Mobile will host a special Learning Lunch at noon on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 featuring local author and Mardi Gras historian Steve Joynt. He will share a presentation titled, The Mother of Mystics and All Her Children.

Steve Joynt spent over 30 years in the journalism industry, starting in high school as a copy boy for his hometown newspaper, the Richmond News Leader, in Richmond Virginia. He went on to attend the University of Virginia, where he earned degrees in English and American Government. He then attended Columbia University and earned a Master’s Degree in Journalism.

He spent 15 years as a reporter for the Birmingham Post Herald and then 11 years with the Mobile Press Register, eventually becoming Assistant City Editor. He covered everything from hurricanes and plane wrecks to rock stars and notorious killers. In 1997, his book Jack’s Law, about the life and career of infamous Birmingham Judge Jack Montgomery, was published. After leaving the Press Register in 2011, he founded Thrown Ventures, a publishing and printing company. He shares the rich story of Mobile’s Mardi Gras through the annual publication of his magazine, Mobile Mask.

The History Museum of Mobile invites the general public to attend the free Learning Lunch lecture series. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy a presentation on an historical or cultural topic.
