In October, the History Museum of Mobile announced exciting news: Dressing the Abbey, an exhibition featuring the iconic wardrobe worn by the cast of Downtown Abbey, will be on view at the museum from January 28 to April 22, 2023.
From rich country tweeds to beautiful evening gowns, to a starched footman’s livery, to the shorter hemlines of the 1920s, the textiles in this exhibition uncover the impact of the First World War. Visitors will see how evolving styles both reflect and shape ideas about society, culture, manners, and history at this transformative period in the history of the Western world.
