Join the curators at the History Museum of Mobile on Thursday, May 28, 2026 for a behind-the-scenes look at our collection! See inside the vault and learn how curators care for more than 117,000 objects.

The theme for this month’s tour is THE ART OF ROBERT D. MACKENZIE. Visitors will see his paintings, etchings, sketches, photographs, and more, and learn about the fascinating life of this Mobile artist. Robert MacKenzie (1865-1941) and his family immigrated to Mobile from London in 1872. By the time he settled in Mobile in 1914 after a 25-year absence, he was undoubtedly the most well-trained and well-travelled painter, sculptor, and printmaker in Alabama.

During this informative and fascinating tour, curators will discuss the particular environmental, handling, and housing factors needed to prevent damage and ensure the preservation of the objects they collect, safeguard, and interpret for present and future generations of citizens.

These special 1-hour tours are free for members, $20 for ages 18+, and $15 for ages 8-17. Two time options are available: 10:30am and 5:30pm. Tickets must be purchased online in advance (see links below).

NO WALK-UP TICKETS WILL BE SOLD.
