March: At the Water’s Edge & Homage to the Trees of De Tonti presented by the National Endowment for the Arts
As hints of spring begin to appear, the Mobile Arts Council (MAC) joyfully shares
two exhibits reminding us of nature’s growth.
Cherie Peters’ exhibit, At the Water’s Edge, evokes an earthy aesthetic with her mixed-media
compositions integrating found objects onto wood, paper, or plexiglass. Using ancient encaustic
techniques, she creates modern textured compositions. Cherie showcases her work in a broad
spectrum of juried contemporary art shows, where she has earned recognition and awards.
World renowned botanical artist, Derek Norman, returns to the MAC Gallery to present his art
and the work of his students in the Mobile Botanical Gardens’ Art Program in Homage to the Trees of De Tonti. Shaded by a canopy of ancient live oak trees and lush magnolias, Mobile’s De Tonti Square Historic District provides these artists with their subject matter for: Homage to the Trees of De Tonti. Their collection will present oils, pastels, watercolors, and pen & ink pieces by these local artists – Elisa Baldwin, Joanne Brandt, Earl Clark, Jane Clark, Christy Hatcher, Ricia Hendrick, Charmain Mann, Missy Patrick, and Melissa Root along with Derek Norman.
Join is for an opening reception from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. during ArtWalk on March 13th!
The MAC Gallery @ Room 1927 will be closed March 20th & 21st for a private event.
