September Organization Member of the Month
Congratulations to our September Organization Member of the Month Crescent Theater!
The Crescent Theater has been a cornerstone of downtown Mobile for well over a century. First opening its doors in 1885 as a vaudeville venue, it transitioned to silent films in 1912 and later became known as the Century Theater in 1937, before closing in the 1970s. After a major renovation, the Crescent was brought back to life in 2008, once again delighting audiences. Despite changing ownership and facing challenges through the decades, its spirit has remained a steadfast part of Mobile’s cultural fabric.
Today, the Crescent is stepping boldly into its next chapter under the leadership of Mobile native Zeke Buckhaults (Comedy Mobile) and New Orleans’ Stu Schayot (Laugh Life Comedy). The duo, who met in 2023 during Buckhaults’ time at Alabama Music Box, have since produced dozens of comedy shows together in Mobile.
“We want to embrace the Crescent’s century-old tradition as a Mobile landmark while transforming it into a future-focused home for comedy, cinema, and the arts,” said co-owner Zeke Buckhaults. “This theater offers incredible acoustics and an intimate setting that makes laughter infectious—it’s the perfect venue for stand-up comedy and live entertainment.”
With their vision, Zeke and Stu aim to establish the Crescent as a premier entertainment hub for the central Gulf Coast and ensure it thrives for generations to come.
Thank you, Zeke and Stu, for breathing new life into a theater that has inspired film lovers, artists, and creative spirits for more than 100 years!
