The University of Mobile Visual Arts Department invites you to join them for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to rebind a classic paperback book into a beautiful, hardcover custom edition.

Faculty and graduate students will guide you through the process, step-by-step, as you transform a basic paperback book into a custom hard bound edition with a cloth cover, foil cover design, patterned end pages, built-in bookmark, and painted edges. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in books or the craft of bookbinding.

Attendees will choose one of six popular books to rebind and be provided with pre-selected materials and a cover design. Plus, they will provide a full overview of material selection and discuss crafting your own cover designs during the workshop so that you can apply these skills to any novel you like!

Book Choices:

  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • Dune by Frank Herbert
  • The Hobbit by JR Tolkien
  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  • The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
