Janet Hinton
Dates: July 1-31, 2016
This July, Janet Hinton will be displaying a series of landscape and water paintings in MAC’s Skinny Gallery. Her exhibition is in two parts: a series of paintings of water and landscapes. According to Hinton, “Both reflect my interest in specific places. The paintings show the basic elements of design: color, shape, line, and texture. Atmosphere and time of day are important to me in the paintings. The subject matter is from home and travels. A camera and sketchbook provide the starting place for my paintings.” Although what she sees dictates the subject for the most part, Hinton occasionally make small changes to strengthen the design quality of her work. In her water series, the close vantage point of her paintings give a non-objective quality to her paintings. Janet Hinton grew up in Attalla, Alabama, and earned her MFA degree fromthe University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, majoring in printmaking with minorconcentrations in painting and ceramics. She was on the art faculty at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, retiring in 2010. Hinton moved to Fairhope Alabama in 2011, where she maintains a studio. She works in printmaking, painting, drawing, clay, and photography. Hinton teaches occasionally at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope.
