5 is a juried exhibition of work by students at the area's five colleges and universities, sponsored every other year by Mobile Arts Council (MAC). The 2018 exhibition will be displayed in the MAC galleries (318 Dauphin St.) from Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 27, with a reception during the LoDa ArtWalk on Friday, April 13. It is open to any student – not only students studying art - enrolled during any part of the 2017 -2018 academic year at Bishop State Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, Spring Hill College, the University of Mobile, or the University of South Alabama.
Students may submit up to three pieces in any medium/ style, created while enrolled in your current school.
Either email submission images and forms (to email@example.com) or mail a completed submission form, a $20 entry fee (check payable to "Mobile Arts Council") and a disc containing jpg images (300 dpi recommended) to MAC at P.O. Box 372, Mobile, AL 36601, or drop off your submissions at MAC’s offices at 318 Dauphin St. Images must be labeled with the work title, followed by the student’s last name. Emailed submissions will be sent a PayPal invoice. We must receive your submission by 4 PM, Friday, February 23.
You will be notified of the juried decisions by Monday, March 19. Six prizes will be awarded: First, Second, and Third Place; and three Honorable Mentions. Prizes will include cash, as well as other items.
If your work is selected, you must drop off pieces at the Council offices on Thursday, March 29, Friday, March 30, or Monday, April 2 (9 AM - 5 PM). Works must be ready for display; if you use a mat, it must be white. All pieces must remain on display until noon on Thursday, April 27 and be picked up on Saturday, April 28 (7 AM - 12 PM) or Monday, April 30 (9 AM - 5 PM).
If a piece is sold, MAC will add sales tax (10%) and take a 20% commission. Checks are given to the artists at the beginning of the following month.
