Thanks to a grant from the Downtown Mobile Alliance ‘s MOBilize Fund and various private donors, we have made headway towards our newest public art initiative! So far, 25 utility boxes have been painted or wrapped throughout downtown, and more are in the works!

We are currently at capacity for art submissions for this project through the end of 2023. However, this project will continue on a rolling basis throughout 2024 and beyond, and artists are still welcomed to apply. All 2-D art mediums are potentially eligible, including photography. Chosen artists may choose to either paint the box OR have it professionally wrapped with vinyl or a similar application.

Each power box project will be provided with a $750 budget, including the cost of materials/vinyl application. Additional compensation may be available on special applications. A selection committee will choose artists on a rolling bases throughout the year as funds become available.

We are currently in search of potential sponsors for this project. Each painted box will cost approximately $1000. If you are interested in funding this project, email Angela Montgomery at amontgomery@mobilearts.org.
