United Way Pledge Mural

Early September 2021, the Mobile Arts Council’s staff, along with a group of community volunteers and artists, painted a mural designed by Ginger Woechan on behalf of United Way of Southwest Alabama. This mural represents the different pillars of their organization, and served to bring color and liveliness to the side of their office space on Joachim and St. Francis Street.

On November 12, 2021, United Way of Southwest Alabama celebrated Family Night, an event honoring the families that received services from the 2020 Pledge Campaign. Sarah Laurio, Director of Sybil Smith Family Village, attended the event with a recent graduate of the program and her family. Beneficiaries of their services joined to create handprint flowers on their Pledge Mural and thanked the United Way for their support. Dumas Wesley Community Center’s transitional housing program, the Sybil Smith Family Village, offers housing and support services for women and families experiencing homelessness.
