March Artist Member of the Month

Congratulations to Clara Brunk, our March Artist Member of the Month!

Originally from New Mexico, she moved to Mobile in 1980 for a teaching job and was quickly captivated by the Southern charm and moss-draped oaks.

Her love for art started young, learning from her mother, who explored many creative mediums. Though oil painting first stole her heart, life led her down a path of education and leadership. Near the end of her 43-year career in education, Clara discovered Zentangle®, a meditative art form that breaks down complex patterns into reproducible steps. In 2018, she became a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT) and has since expanded her artistry into watercolor, Prismacolor pencils, and alcohol inks.

Clara is grateful to the many local artists who have guided her along the way and remains committed to lifelong learning and creative exploration. In her own words: “I create when something reaches inside of me and tugs. My home state of New Mexico often influences my color choices and subjects. I look for scenes that make me stop, catch my breath, laugh, or melt my heart. I hope my work connects with others as much as it does with me.”

Beyond her personal artistic practice, Clara is deeply involved in Mobile’s art community, serving as: President of the Mobile Art Association, Board Member of the Mobile Museum of Art, Member of the Mobile Arts Council, Member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama, Member of the Sumi-e Shibui Chapter Mobile AL & Sumi-e Society of America, and Acting General Manager of Lupercalia Art Society

Join us in celebrating Clara and her incredible talent!
