February Organization Member of the Month
Congratulations to our February Organization member of the month Samuel Edward Theater Company!
Samuel Edward Theater Company (S.E.T.) is a nonprofit organization that is a true gem in the heart of Mobile, Alabama. The theater company is named in honor of Japonica Brown’s late father, Samuel Edward Westry, a man whose resilience and wisdom continue to inspire the work of S.E.T. Samuel served his country in the U.S. Navy and lived with a simple yet powerful mantra: “Nothing lasts forever.” Japonica carries this legacy forward, encouraging her students, actors, and clients to embrace life, dream big, and make their mark.
S.E.T. is dedicated to fostering creativity and providing a platform for local artists to express themselves, entertain, and inspire. Their mission is to empower creative voices, offer mentorship, provide educational opportunities, and give young people a space for self-expression. They offer everything from after-school theater classes to full-on main-stage productions. S.E.T. creates an environment where art and community thrive. S.E.T. offers mental health services to marginalized communities, utilizing the healing qualities of art while creating change.
S.E.T. is more than just a theater company—it’s a community that gives voice to the stories that matter.
