February Artist Member of the Month
Congratulations to our February Artist Member of the Month Huggy Bear da Poet!
Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Huggy Bear da Poet has graced stages across the country, from L.A. and Atlanta to New York and DC. He’s opened for legends like Nikki Giovanni, Jill Scott, Fantasia, and Rickey Smiley, and has become a major force in the spoken word scene.
Known for his powerful, socially aware poetry, Huggy uses his words to inspire change, spark deep self-reflection, and challenge societal norms. His in-your-face style speaks to both personal and collective struggles, motivating others to confront fears and make a difference.
Huggy’s self-published book Love, Laughter, Heartache, and Pain takes readers on a journey through his life, exploring themes of love, deception, and social justice. His CDs Where I Was and New Growth continue this exploration through raw, emotional spoken word.
Beyond his art, Huggy is deeply committed to his community, offering performances and workshops nationwide, and serves as the state coordinator for the Alabama Poor People’s Campaign.
Through his poetry, Huggy Bear hopes social change won’t just be revolutionary, but evolutionary—an ongoing movement for a better Black America.
