April Artist Member of the Month

Congratulations to our April Artist Member of the Month Kathy Martin!

Kathy is a gifted local artist whose work spans a variety of mediums, often inspired by the beauty and intricacy of the natural world. She curated last month’s exhibition, “Friends in High Places,” selecting a group of local artists to create works inspired by feathered wildlife. Creating a moving tribute to the inspiration birds bring to our world.

In Kathy’s own words: “In my everyday life, I often think about the fine line between our manmade environment and the abundance of nature all around us. We are in our homes, our cars, and our offices, and just outside there is a sparrow in the parking lot or a box turtle in our yard. I love nature and especially what can be seen and the connections that can be made if we are looking for them. Biking and kayaking are two ways that I connect to the outdoors. I like paddling quietly on the river and sneaking up on birds and other animals to observe and photograph them. It is gratifying to me to see them in their own habitats and to know the areas that they frequent. My favorite place to paint is on my porch where I have a view of the water and can listen to the birds. Much of my art is focused on this love of nature and animals that are a part of my daily life. Fred, my big old orange cat, is always close by supervising my work and observing me!”

Her works featured here include: Cheetos and Starlings, Welcoming Committee, Striking a Balance- Oyster in Bienville Square, Immer Bereit- German for always be prepared.
