GCESC: Celebrate Life! Drug Prevention Expo

Celebrate Life! presented by the Exploreum, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Museum, the DEA Educational Foundation, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, is an afternoon of informative and exciting activities encouraging people to prevent alcohol and drug abuse.

Playhouse in the Park: “Willy Wonka - The Musical”

“WILLY WONKA – THE MUSICAL" Join us for The Playhouse in the Park’s production of "Willy Wonka – The Musical,” based on the classic 1964 book by Roald Dahl. The stage musical follows Charlie Bucket's adventures inside the famed Wonka Chocolate Factory. Owned by eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka, the factory tour is open to only the five lucky children (and their guardians) who find an elusive golden ticket. Show dates for “Willy Wonka – The Musical” are be Friday through Sunday, July 21 through August 13, 2017. Tickets are Fridays & Saturdays 7:30 p.m. and Sunday Matinees at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for students and seniors. For reservations, call 251-602-0630. Crystal Garden featuring Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band

Crystal Garden was formed in the fall of 2015 by Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley and in their short time performing together have garnered much attention from music fans all over the U.S. He’s produced their debut album, “Let the Rocks Cry Out” which was released in March and the band is currently on tour in support of the new record. Tinsley joins Mycle Wastman (Guitar, Vox), Charlie Csontos (Bass) and Matt Frewen (Drums) on the road as they wrap up a 21 date East Coast Tour and gear up for the Summer leg starting in July.

GCE&H: Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp

The program is a dynamic, 10-day learning experience, focusing on the history and fundamentals of Jazz.  Jazz Camp classes focus on music appreciation of legendary jazz giants, noting the uniqueness of their interpretations of the genre, individual instruction on the structure of improvisational style and the important role each instrument plays in carrying out an authentic jazz sound. Students are also taught the fundamentals of self-discipline, responsibility and commitment to practice. The educational experiences our students receive instill the core values of confidence, leadership and teamwork, and good citizenship.
