Save on Gardens-and-Home combination tickets with Bellingrath’s Snowbird Special, a discount for all ages in January and February. With the Snowbird Special, an adult Gardens-and-Home ticket costs $16.50 (regular price: $21) and a child Gardens-and-Home ticket costs $11.50 (regular price: $13). There is no admission fee for members of the Friends of Bellingrath, or for ages 4 and younger. Come out and join our special guests and community partners as we celebrate Black Heritage in reading, poetry, storytelling and songs. AARI is a national literacy initiative ongoing since 1989, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) beginning in 1990, and later endorsed by the International Reading Association.

Studio A- Ages 9-12. Ballet technique is the basis for modern, tap, jazz, and hip hop. Ballet is vital to the performance quality of all dance forms. Class will focus on ballet steps, technique,terminology, musicality, and combinations. Class will build awareness ofproper alignment, muscle control and injury prevention. Students will also learn problem solving skills, listening skills, how to follow directions, work with other students and begin to build self esteem and self discipline. Ballet also conditions the body and builds stamina, strength and flexibility. Each level will have specific guidelines as to what terminolgy will be learned, with the higher levels becoming more complex and challenging.

The Baldwin Pops Band, led by 3 conductors, will present "Salute to American Classics". Conductor Roger Jones, Conductor Emeritus Joe Riemer, and Guest Conductor Steve Sims will lead the band in a diverse selection of American music, including two newly composed works by Dr. Roger Jones. The concert pieces will include American Salute by Morton Gould, Big Bands in Concert arranged by Bob Lowden, and The Circus Bee by Henry Fillmore. In addition, the band will perform a specially arranged trio of pieces from Aaron Copland's Rodeo -- Buckaroo Holiday, Saturday Night Waltz, and Hoe Down. Dr. Roger Jones will conduct two of his newest compositions, The New Direction of Time, which is dedicated to Joe Riemer, and Solitude: an Ode for English Horn solo with wind ensemble. Erica Lovato, a high school senior at Spanish Fort High School will be featured on English Horn. This concert is sponsored by the City of Orange Beach. In addition, the Baldwin Pops Band is sponsored by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

The University of South Alabama Department of Music will present a faculty oboe recital featuring Rebecca Mindock in collaboration with pianist Robert Holm and clarinetist Kip Franklin on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The recital, titled "To Friendship," features works resulting from or written to emphasize friendship and collaboration, and will feature compositions by Thomas Dunhill, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Francis Poulenc, and Rudolf Haken.
