Poetry Out Loud 2017-18

The Mobile Arts Council will continue to coordinate Poetry Out Loud in 2017-2018 for Region 1 (Baldwin, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Covington, Escambia, Marengo, Mobile, Monroe, Washington, and Wilcox Counties). We encourage all English, Creative Writing, and Theatre teachers to participate!

For those that are unfamiliar with the contest, Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure that starts at the classroom level. Winners advance to school-wide, regional and state competitions, and ultimately to the National Finals. MAC invites all schools in Region 1 to participate in the upcoming academic year. In addition to the National Program, which requires the recitation of poems selected from an official anthology, Alabama features an Original Poetry Competition. Participating students have a chance to win thousands of dollars, as well as the opportunity to strengthen speaking skills, boost self-confidence, and broaden knowledge of our literary heritage.

Please view the following link to learn more about the program, download the teacher's guide, and view all additional forms: http://www.arts.alabama.gov/programs/AIE/POL.aspx

Please email or call Lucy Gafford (lgafford@mobilearts.org) as soon as possible if you are interested in participating or volunteering to help with the program. If you know any English, Creative Writing, and Theatre teachers, please pass along the program information! Below are important dates for those interested in participating:
